Creating the Hair Look at Kirrily Johnston x Cooper St Edit Spring / Summer 15.16

Backstage for Kirrily Johnston at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia with Renya Xydis, Wella Professionals Ambassador.
The hair look, created by Renya Xydis, Wella Professionals Ambassador, for the Kirrily Johnston x Cooper St Edit SS15/16 show was an intricately braided, Grecian goddess-inspired look. “We wanted to create softer, more feminine version of a gladiator style but with an edgy aspect. The texture of the hair style is matte and dry rather than tight and wet, and we've left beautiful, flowy tendrils so that when she moves, the hair moves with her. We've used a lot of Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz and Sebastian Drynamic Dry Shampoo to lift the hair from the scalp, before adding Sebastian Re-Shaper Hairspray to layer the textures and create grit,"
Renya Xydis, Wella Professionals Ambassador.

GET THE LOOK
  • Begin with freshly washed hair using SP LuxeOil Keratin Protect Shampoo and Mask.
  • Liberally spray Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz into hair and roughly blow dry to create texture.
  • Create a centre part and spray Sebastian Drynamic Dry Shampoo into the roots before French braiding a 5cm braid on each side until you reach the crown, and then fishtail plait to the ends, spraying with Sebastian Re-Shaper Hairspray to seal.
  • Repeat as above, creating two additional braids with the front sections of hair, leaving out soft tendrils around the hairline.
  • With the lower half of the hair, create a mix of larger French braids and smaller fishtail braids to incorporate all the hair.
  • Group the braids into three even sections and plait together to create one large plait, then loop the end around to the left and secure under at the nape of the neck with pins.
  • Working with the palms of your hands, manipulate and massage the braids to create an imperfect texture and messy style.
  • Paint gold glitter onto the scalp in between the braids and spritz with Sebastian Re-Shaper Hairspray to finish

get the look: fresh pink palette by georgina graham!

(Photographer: Donna Trope) Make-up by Georgina Graham
GEORGINA GRAHAM: "With this look I wanted the skin to feel fresh and clean so I skipped on foundation and just used a small amount of Sunday Riley Tinted Primer with a soft buffing brush to neutralise any redness.
With the eyes I kept to a sweet pink colour palette using Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick Colour in Pink Opal over the eyelids as a base before adding a further dimension with Kiko Water Eyeshadow in Baby Rose.
For the dark crease through the socket I used Make Up Forever Eye Pencil in Taupe before blending out with a pencil brush and then loading up on MAC Haute & Naughty Mascara on the top & bottom lash.
To create that lilac lip I used Serge Lutens Lipstick in Mauve de Swann and then added highlights to the skin with RMS Living Luminizer."

get the look: perfect new year nails by julie kandalec!

marie claire russia december 2014 - (photographer: jamie nelson)

Julie Kandalec-

Our inspiration was an old cover of Vogue Gioiello.

01. I started by putting full-coverage tips on her nails to add drama and to protect them.

02. Over a coat of Chanel Diwali metallic polish I applied each Swarovski crystal individually, first dipping it into eyelash glue for resilient yet gentle adhesion.

03. One thing that you may not immediately notice is that her hands are ombré in a full rainbow of colors- both vertically AND up each finger. These probably took me 1.5-2 hours to apply.

Get the Look: The Ultimate Party Look Tutorial using Max Factor!

Designed by Max Factor’s creative director Pat McGrath, the look celebrates 100 years of Max Factor’s glamorous transformations.  Inspired by 1960’s icon, Twiggy, this tutorial will help you to recreate a striking party look while channelling the edgy femininity that came from her graphic make-up.  The look features Max Factor’s newest launch, Masterpiece Transform Mascara, for WOW effect lashes.
How-To:
1. Prepare the face and brows: Apply foundation, groom your eyebrows and fill in sparse areas with an eyebrow pencil.
2. Blend a taupe cream shadow into the crease of the eye for definition and blend a little along the lower lash line.
3. Set the applied shadow with a taupe powder shadow in both the crease and the lower lash line.
4. Add a little more depth into the outer eye area and into the crease with a dark brown eye shadow.
5. Blend all the shades out gently with a pale taupe shadow and highlight under the brow bone with a champagne shade.
6. Apply a charcoal pencil liner along the upper lash line and softly create a wing shape.
7. Repeat on the lower lash line while keep a little separation between the lines at the wing.
8. Smudge a black eye shadow into the eyeliner for a smokey effect.
9. In the space between liner, apply a bold white eye shadow pencil for a striking look.
10. Coat the upper and lower lashes with a lengthening and volumising mascara to finish the eyes.
11. Frame the face with a bronzer. Start around the perimeter and blend out to the hair line.
12. Enhance the shape of your lips with a nude liner and fill the lips in with a pink-based nude lipstick to finish.

Max Factor Products to recreate the look:

get the look: nude bliss at calvin klein f/w 14.15

In keeping with the over-arching trend for natural complexions, this season, lips were barely there at all, with a nude lip often meaning just that – nude. In keeping with the stark softness and monochromatic tones of the grey trend, there was a modern ease to the look.
“We found ourselves spending a lot of time prepping lips, first by scrubbing them with Wet Wipes, then applying a lot of lip balm, waiting a second or two, then scrubbing them again with Wet Wipes, and re-applying lip balm” says Max Factor Global Creative Director Pat McGrath.

For many shows, that was where the process stopped, with a neutral shade of lip balm. Where color was added, it remained natural. At Calvin Klein, the shade was muted rose.

TIP:  Where Pat McGrath wanted all the models to have a uniform lip shade, she would apply base to their lips first. “If your lips are naturally dark, apply a touch of foundation or concealer first to take out your lip’s natural color – it will intensify your chosen shade of lip balm or lipstick.”

GET THE LOOK:
1. Start the look with glowing skin, by applying Max Factor Luminizer Foundation to the face with fingertips

2. Warm up the complexion using a sweep of Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in Maroon Dust, blending it up the cheekbones with the fingertips for a subtle contouring effect

3. Add a flush of blush to further define the cheekbones by sweeping Max Factor Flawless Perfection Blush in Classic Rose over the apples of cheeks

4. Next, use Max Factor WILD Shadow Pencil in Ferocious White to add a touch of light to the inner corners of the eye, cheekbones and cupid’s bow

5. Groom eyebrows to perfection using Max Factor Eye Brow Pencil in Hazel

6. Create definition to the eyes using Max Factor Wild Shadow Pen in Caramel Rage to contour. Apply the shadow from the inner corner of eyes to the outside and then soften into crease using fingertips for a halo effect

7. Intensify the natural balmy lip look by applying Max Factor Masterpiece Master touch Concealer across the lips to take out the natural colour then follow up with a slick of Max Factor Lipfinity Lipstick in Topcoat.

Get the Look: Victoria Beckham F/W 14.15 using Max Factor Skin Luminizer Foundation!

100 years since Mr. Max Factor invented and released Greasepaint, our original foundation innovation, Max Factor is today continuing its forward-thinking approach with the launch of Skin Luminizer Foundation. Specifically created for women who are seeking subtle radiance and luminosity that gets their healthy-looking skin and not their foundation noticed – this innovative product delivers beautiful coverage with the added benefit of enhanced skincare properties.

Get the Glow Max Factor Skin Luminizer Foundation contains an innovative swirled formula packed with subtle skin luminizers that deliver a beautiful luminous finish with added skincare benefits. The pearl pigments brighten skin tone for instant radiance while elastomers create “windows” in the skin through which light can be reflected back, creating a luminous and wide-awake effect.

Exclusively previewed at New York Fashion Week at the Victoria Beckham AW14 Show, Pat McGrath used the foundation on the models to reveal her ‘cool interpretation of modern day glamour’ with a contemporary nude beauty look that truly embodied the current and sophisticated spirit of the collection.
"Victoria wanted the girls to stay looking very natural, almost as themselves, but to enhance their beauty with simple touches of makeup. This included important details such as adding extra luminosity to the skin. It was all about natural glamour that’s so modern and relevant to today.”
“The foundation contains subtle skin luminizers to create the appearance of an instantly enhanced, glowing complexion – making it perfect for the Victoria Beckham show.” Pat McGrath, Max Factor Global Creative Design Director
Backstage, Pat McGrath kick started the make-up application by massaging ultra-dewy, hydrating moisturisers into the models skin. Next she applied the foundation using her fingers for precision, but once perfected, she used tissue to gently rub off any excess from the cheeks, unveiling the models own soft but subtle skin glow. The result was a flawless, radiant skin finish that looked “lit from within”.

Get the Look: Sweet meets edgy with Ayami Nishimura!

Images from Numéro China Make-Up: Ayami Nishimura Photographer: Laurie Bartley (ManagementArtists) Stylist: Felipe Mendes Hair: Romina Manenti (See) Model: Lexi Boling (Ford)
Ayami Nishimura: We went to the Dominican Republic for this special NUMERO shoot. The makeup is very summery and fresh yet has a feeling of edginess. Lexi was the perfect girl for this look! We had great sunny and hot 2 days with her, but she spent most of the time in the water.
First, I bleached her eyebrows. This would give her a bit of hardness, a cool look. I wanted to keep the makeup young and pretty but not too sweet as we decided her hair color would be pink, which is very girly. Then I spread foundation on her, matching with her skin tones which is pale. Don’t forget sun screen! SPF 50 would be suitable under this weather. As she was in a the water, I put it on a few times a day. Also powder to reflect the sun.
Eyes – there are 2 different eye shadow colors I used as we had 2 days. I wanted to enjoy changing although keep the same feeling.
Day 1: MakeUpForEver Turquoise and White matte powder eye shadows are used repeatedly to make baby blue. The color was put on her eye lids. This is a matte very soft blue and you can repeat the process until you get the result you like. I loved this light tone on Lexi’s pale skin. Then thick MakeUpForEver Black Gel Liner on top and bottom to make her eyes hard and strong. I did a very graphic line to emphasize edginess. Gel liner is the best lasting and you can create a strong look and it's also waterproof. False eye lashes are applied on top with lots of black mascara on – I normally love YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Mascara, as it is very black and makes the eyelashes thicker.
Day 2: Less black gel liner around the eyes for a change. Still a thick line on top but not too long to avoid looking too punky. I applied black eye liner on the bottom. I put MakeUpForEver Candy Pink matte eye shadow under her eyes, to the outer which made the color wider – this is still pastel and baby tones of pink to match day 1 of blue. This look is pretty but not sweet, hard and girly. False eye lashes are applied on top with lots of black mascara on to keep the same feeling. Lips – I erased color from her lips by using MAC lip eraser and also foundation on the top. You have to remove and repeat the process on her lips as they get dry which often happens with the products. Keep it matte. This would make eyes look even stronger.  Cheekssoft matte pink blusher was applied on Lexi’s cheeks. Keep it fresh and young, it looked perfect with her pink hair.

Get the Look: 80's Wicked Games with Steven Canavan!

Images from L'Express Styles Make-Up: Steven Canavan (Latelier NYC) Photographer: Alique Stylist: Yann Weber (Call My Agent) Hair: Alessandro Rebecchi (Artlist) Model: Samantha Gradoville (IMG)
Steven Canavan: The inspiration for our story "Sous les maillots, la plage" was definitely the 80's, old fashion spreads from that era, especially Brooke Shields and the 1989 Chris Isaak video "Wicked Game" starring the beautiful Helena Christensen
Since it was mostly about swimsuits, but mixed with fashion i didn't want it to much of a makeup look, no bright colors. I start by prepping Samantha's skin with Shiseido Men Moisturizing Emulsion, it has a really light milky texture and is perfect as a primer. Since we were shooting on a beach i did also use some Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 55 sunscreen - gotta protect the skin from aging too fast! Being that Samantha has wonderful skin, I used very little Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion makeup which evens out the skin-tone and gives a zero texture - skin feel .
I then curled her lashes with my Shu Uemura Curler and started the look with multiple (as in A LOT ) of layers of YSL False Eye Lash Effect Mascara. Once I was happy with the lashes I used MAC SMOLDER Eye Kohl on the inside of her eyes (up and down - go all around to create an intense look) - it is very pigmented and has a greasy texture which is perfect for this look. Then I used MAC Feline Kohl Power Eye around the eyes , very little on the lid and a little more under the eyes and blended everything with a small Hakuhodo brush from the Kokutan series. I'm obsessed with these brushes!
Then i used Le Crayon Kohl in BRUN from Lancôme on the inside corner of her eyes applying it on the skin and then blending it with a small brush all the way up into her eyebrows and towards her nose to create depth. You have to blend it really good so theres no lines and it just leaves the impression of a shadow. On her lips I used Shiseido Perfect Rouge in BR702 which i gently applied with my fingers to create a more natural look.
I brushed up her gorgeous eyebrows et voilà....the perfect 80s sexy beach look! Since there was a lot of skin showing i used Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil all over her body to give her a satin summer glow.

Get the look: 90's Grunge with Georgina Graham!

Images from M Le Monde Make-Up: Georgina Graham Photographer: Nick Dorey (D & V) Stylist: Marine Chaumien Hair: Tomohiro Ohashi (Management Artists) Model: Kat Hessen (The Society)
Georgina Graham: This makeup is a very now girl who would be influenced by both the Helmut Newton woman or a cool 90's grunge gal. The focus for the beauty was both the hair and the dark eye.
I created a clean minimal skin, that is highlighted on the cheekbones to feel fresh. I used a black cream liner with a soft fluffy but quite small brush. I sketched a shape that I liked and suited the eye on the top of the eyelid. As it was drying I used my finger to push in a metallic black shadow to add intensity, depth and some sparkly shine in the centre of the lid. I then used a small angled brush to run the shadow along the lower eye line close to the lashes.
The eyebrows were totally ignored just combed and mega curled fluttery lashes achieved by many coats of black mascara on top and bottom lashes. There is a strong defined crease which I created using a grey eye pencil then used a brush to diffuse and soften the effect. I used the same pencil on the outer corners of the lower lashes and then blended for a soft focus effect. I used the same cheek highlighter in the centre of the eyelids and then used a light peach lip colour on the lips, just using my fingers to push it in so that it melted into the lip and so that you could also see the lip colour. To finish I added Powder on the T zone.

get the look: gwyneth paltrow's 1970's beauty transformation using maxfactor!

Led by Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrathMax Factor is celebrating 100 years of glamorous transformations by recreating some of the most influential beauty looks of the past on creative inspiration Gwyneth Paltrow.

With a rich heritage in Hollywood Glamour, Max Factor has gone back to its roots to celebrate some of the iconic work of Mr. Max Factor; the original architect of personal glamour and the man responsible for some of the most transcending beauty looks of all time. Featuring a look from the forties, fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties, the new campaign will see Gwyneth Paltrow transformed into modern interpretations of some of the world’s most iconic beauty icons.

The first look to be revealed on Gwyneth is Max Factor’s take on 1970s glamour, inspired by seventies heroine Farrah Fawcett. Heightening the glamour with bronzed cheekbones and fanned out eyelashes, Max Factor created a modern take on classic seventies make-up.
1. For a fresh skin-finish that is smooth and matte but with a subtle radiance, apply Whipped Crème Foundation applying with either a brush or a sponge for a perfect demi-matte finish. The new whipped formula is the perfect balance between matte and radiant, and gives a full and even coverage for a smooth skin look reminiscent of the 1970s era.
2. The 70s Studio 64 inspired beauty look is all about the cheeks! Start by dusting Flawless Perfection Blush in Mulberry across the cheekbones using circular brush motions. For the added intensity, switch to Classic Pink, sweeping from the apples up to the temples for that dazzling disco look.
3. In contrast to the cheeks, create a coppery colour explosion on the eyes for added drama. Start with Wild Shadow Pot in Feral Brown applied to the center lids, then continue by blending into Savage Rose at the inner corners, and end by sweeping strokes of Auburn Envy at the outer areas.
4. For extra glamour, really emphasise eyes using Colour X-pert Eyeliner in Black. Draw widening lines along both the upper and lower lid rims, tapering towards the outer corners for spellbinding intensity and drama.
5. Build up two or three layers of False Lash Effect Mascara in Black for lashes that are volumised to the max with intense length.
6. Follow the theme of beautiful vibrant warm tones by finishing with Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick in Hot Chocolate. Use the pencil first to line the lips using the tapered end, then angle to fill with saturated colour.

get the look: create isabeli fontana's gorgeous look from vogue ukraine, by make-up artist georgina graham!

Get Isabeli's look from Vogue Ukraine, thanks to the talented Make-Up artist, Georgina Graham!

"For the shoot I saw the clothes which had a lot of white & silver in the palette not to mention the floral dress, which was used on the cover and I just felt that I really wanted to create a makeup for Isabeli that was fresh, cool and felt real, especially with the wet slightly sculpted hair by Nicolas Jurnjack.

So I started by using one of those fabric face masks. They really add a mega moisture boost to the skin and everyone loves them for their visually ridiculous appeal!

I decided to do almost no base as Isabeli has amazing skin (she really is a supermodel!) so it was minimal. I used a little Sunday Riley Tinted Primer to give a sheer even tone everywhere. I groomed the brows using a brow brush and a bit of Elnett hairspray. I used some illuminizer by RMS on her cheekbones and centre of eye lids, to create some shine.

I used a MAC cream called walnut to contour under the cheekbones very very lightly using the palms of my hands to really push the product into the skin. I contorted through the crest of the eye with a pink & brown shadow from MAC called jest & taupe. Then on mega curled lashes I used MAC Haute n Naughty my favourite black mascara of the moment.

For the lips I used Nightmoth lip pencil and Dubonnet Lipstick by MAC with Lipglass for that 90's influence of glossy dark lips! Think younger Drew Barrymore or the cast of the film The Craft. As Isabeli was on set I spritzed her with a water spray to have the skin look luscious and super refreshed with a slightly damp quality. I love sprays that contain vitamins so they add that little extra. Try water sprays by Jurlique, Balance Me or This Works for a super treat."

Get the Look: Georgina Graham's gorgeous glitter for Francesco Scognamiglio S/S 14

One of the most gorgeous beauty looks from Milan S/S 14 came from make-up artist Georgia Graham, who created a flawless base with a glittery finish for the Francesco Scognamiglio show.

"I worked with Revlon on Francesco Scognamiglio. The look was minimal using the lightest base by Revlon to cover and take any redness out of the models skin. Then we just curled the lashes and added a lip balm.

The base acted as a good barrier because then I used glitter sprays that we had ordered in advance from Los Angeles that make film and tv makeup. We used a lavender glitter, a pink glitter and a clear multi techno glitter that had gold and silver in it. We chose the colours for the models according to what they were wearing as each model only wore one outfit. Also depending on what the models liked.

They all loved it and we used plastic dog collars from my vet's to protect the clothes and hair which was created by Franco Gobbi. It was effortless and a bit grungy in contrast to my beautiful minimal but total glitter faces. All the models loved it and didn't want to take it off which is a good sign after a show!" Georgina Graham

Products:
To create a gorgeous and light base, Georgina used Revlon's Photoready BB Cream
Curl the lashes using Revlon's contoured Lash Curler
Use your favourite lip balm adding shine to the lips
To protect glitter from going on hair and clothes, use a plastic dog collar or something similar
To get the gorgeous glittered look use a glitter spray. A similar product to the one used at the show is
W7 Glitter Spray in silver or gold. Georgina recommends this as it also safe to use on the face.

Get the look: Sam McKnight's braided hair style from Moschino S/S 14!

The SS14 Moschino show marked the 30th Anniversary of the Fashion House. With 70 models and an extravagant production the atmosphere was electric. Supermodels from the past joined the supermodels of the future to put on a truly spectacular show, celebrating three decades of fashion.

Two hair looks were created for this special show – good girl vs evil girl. The ‘good girl’ hair look was inspired by innocence and youth and comprised of a braid on either side of the head that met in the middle above the nape of the neck and was twisted into a delicate bun. This ethereal and angelic look juxtaposed the sharp side parting and slick finish of that of the “evil” girl.

“I wanted to call out the distinction between good and evil through the hair look to mirror the choreography of the show which saw the models walk down the catwalk side by side showcasing two sides of the female personality.” says Sam McKnight, Global Pantene Stylist Ambassador.

McKnight took his inspiration from how the Fashion House had reinterpreted the iconic themes that have inspired the collections over the years. By focusing on four different female characters; the nun, the maid, the playmate and the biker, the look revealed a creative duality that alternated from street-glam style to elegant, accessible and highly refined.
